Resources for Schools

Local planning issues and case studies are a valuable source of material for teachers and students at all levels of formal and informal education.
Planning issues and case studies can assist in:
- delivering the sustainable development and citizenship objectives of the national Curricula
- encouraging an understanding of the relationship between the needs of society and impact on the environment as recognised by planners and other professionals involved in managing development
- helping involve community groups to take an active part in planning matters which might affect their area and developing an understanding of and public involvement in the planning system.
Members of the RTPI have an interest in encouraging all these strands and many professional planners are involved in initiatives to develop educational resources either through the RTPI’s national Education for Sustainable Development Network, activity in the RTPI Regions & Nations, or through local authority planning departments. As a result, a number of educational resources have been developed.
