The results of the 2009 RTPI elections have been announced:

Junior Vice-President

The Junior Vice-President is elected by the entire corporate membership, and following their first year as JVP, the winning candidate becomes the Senior Vice-President, and following that the President in 2012.

Number of eligible voters:                                    18,027

Total number of votes cast:                                 2745

Turnout:                                                                     15.2%

Number of votes found to be invalid:                   9

Total number of valid votes to be counted:         2736

Executive Board

The RTPI is managed by a Board of Trustees, known as the Executive Board. The Executive Board has 15 trustees who have ultimate responsibility for the affairs of the Institute. The elections for Executive Board members are staggered over different years to ensure that there is continuity in the Board membership. All General Assembly members are eligible to vote in this election. This year, eight candidates stood for the three Corporate Member places that are available.

Results

Leonora Rozee and Mike Hayes are elected for 2010 and 2011. Colin Haylock came in third place – as he has been elected as Junior Vice-President, a vacancy arises, and the Board on Wednesday 9 December chose to co-opt Janet O’Neill as a Trustee for 2010.

Executive Board Young Planner

Sara Eustace was the only valid nomination received – she is duly elected for 2010 and 2011.

Executive Board Associations nominated candidate

Don Alder was the only valid nomination received – he is duly elected for 2010 and 2011.

General Assembly 

The General Assembly is the RTPI's primary forum for debate about the development of planning policy and practice, and the corporate policy of the Institute. It is also responsible for electing the Trustees.
The General Assembly consists of between 57 and 72 members.

21 candidates stood for the 14 Corporate Member places. The following are elected for 2010 and 2011:

General Assembly Student/Licentiate Members

Three valid nominations were received, from Daniel Massey, James Morris and Wayne Reynolds, who are all duly elected for 2010 and 2011.

Three places for 2010 are available for filling by co-option. Executive Board is currently considering a number of suggested co-optees, and will decide before Christmas.

General Assembly Legal Member/Legal Associate

One valid nomination was received, from Pat Thomas, who will be a Legal Associate member for 2010 and 2011.

General Assembly Technical Member

One place for 2010 is available for filling by co-option. If you know of any potential candidates, please let James Taylor know. We will be writing to all Technical Members shortly, to seek expressions of interest.

General Assembly Associations nominated candidate

John Harvey has been co-opted by Executive Board to serve in this role for 2010.

Honorary Officers

The Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Solicitor & Secretary posts are filled by election at the January General Assembly.

At this week’s Board meeting it was decided to recommend Vincent Goodstadt as Honorary Treasurer and Peter Wilbraham as Honorary Solicitor & Secretary for 2010. 

Members of the General Assembly are entitled to nominate other candidates for each office – again, please let James Taylor know if you wish to nominate another candidate by Friday 18 December. If more than one candidate is identified for either office, a postal ballot of members of General Assembly will be held in January, with results to be announced at the General Assembly meeting on 20 January 2010.
