Fewer Entries for this Year’s RTPI NE Awards

There have only been 8 entries for 2009 RTPI NE Awards, compared with 17 last year. Says Awards Organiser Chris Clarke: “The reduction in the number of construction projects completed over the last year – especially housing projects – has had a significant effect on the number of entries. Local government reorganisation may also have been a factor. But the quality of the entries received is high, so the judges should have no problem in selecting one or more worthy award winners and commendations.”

A panel of six judges will be appraising all the entries over the summer, before the results of the competition are announced by RTPI President Martin Willey at RTPI NE’s Annual Dinner, to be held in Durham on Friday 9 October.

The entries being considered for an award are:
• Richardson Dees Eco-House, Wallsend;
• Bede Academy, Blyth;
• Eldon Square Shopping Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne, Phase 1;
• Regeneration of St James Church Hall, Alnwick;
• Berwick Workspace, Berwick upon Tweed;
• Trow Quarry Coastal Defence Scheme, South Shields;
• Green Corridor Neighbourhood Masterplan, Derwentside;
• Gateshead Heritage @ St Mary’s, Gateshead.
