Compile a compendium of best practice

The RTPI will set out the results derived from the seven commitments and related actions in an on-line compendium of world class best planning practice and research, accessible to and owned by spatial planners but shared with everyone.

There are already valuable sources of data through other professional bodies and agencies. We will seek to work together to ensure that data is shared and signposted between these and other sources. 

Action plan summary 

Phase 1: Project scoping / inception

  • Examine and revise approach to identification, holding and dissemination of good practice materials on climate change response.
  • Establish internal project group

Phase 2: Identify key issues

  • Managing intellectual property
  • User access and search
  • User contribution and debate
  • Website presentation/searchability
  • Set out delivery options/capacity and programme for development

Phase 3: Liaison with partners

  • Establish stakeholder liaison group
  • Draw material from Commitments 1-5 projects
  • Draw material from Planning Aid, Networks, Regions, Nations, Learning Partners
  • Call for evidence from wider membership
  • Scope for best practice sharing with governments
  • Scope for best practice sharing with built environment professional bodies/CIC

Phase 4: Project launch

  • No formal launch for Phase 1: delivery commences immediately via existing Practice team and website.

Phase 5: Project delivery

  • Two stages of delivery
  • Stage 1: immediate – uses existing ICT and staff resources
  • Stage 2: developed – examines new approaches to ICT and staff resources to develop better product for members

Phase 6: Monitor/review

Outcomes 

1. Establish ‘practice climate change gateway’ on RTPI website

2. Rising presence of peer reviewed / quality assured climate change practice reference sources on RTPI website

3. Improve data management/search facilities as content scale rises

4. Improve user interactivity as content scale rises
