Design Review and Enabling Service
Kirsteen Thomson, Head of IGNITE at One NorthEast, attended a recent meeting of the RTPI NE Regional Activities and Policy Committee (RAPC), to update members on the emergence of the Design Review and Enabling Service. The service plans to develop peer review by regional, national and international panel members. Managed by IGNITE, with a secretariat commissioned from ARUP, the service will have an independent Chair (John Devlin, formerly of Gateshead Council). Initially 23 regional and national experts have been appointed to the panel; whilst English Heritage has observer status. A protocol has been agreed with CABE, to avoid duplication. The aim is to subject at least 30 schemes a year to scrutiny by the Chair and between 3 and 5 panel members (selected according to the scheme).
To advise the panel of any schemes which you think should be subject to scrutiny, contact designreview@ignite-ne.com . The service is due to commence on 3 June 2009, and there is to be a launch event on 12 May 2009. More information can be accessed through the IGNITE website. Panel members include Geoff Underwood of Gateshead Council, Matthew Jarratt of Arts Council England and Matthew Lappin of David Lock Associates.
