THIRD ROUND of ESPON CALLS NOW EXPECTED IN  EARLY SUMMER 2009. To keep informed about this and also the results of the 2nd round of calls visit ESPON 2013 Projects.

ESPON Workshop on Targeting Analysis on Migration and Economy - 13 May, London Are you a policymaker, at national, regional and sub-regional level, who needs better migration data or are you a researcher who could provide such data? This workshop will explore the most pressing research questions and opportunities for ESPON funding. If you would like to book a place please write to research@rtpi.org.uk with details of your particular interests and experience in this topic.  

The ESPON project Potential of Rural Regions was featured on the BBC website. This will be the subject of a call for tenders this summer.

Territorial Impact Assessment was the subject of a recent EU Seminar on the spatial impact of EU policies in Amsterdam. Cliff Hague’s report is available here.

The UK Government is consulting on the transposition of the INSPIRE Directive into statutory instruments in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. The Directive aims to build a European spatial data infrastructure to improve assessing and sharing of  environmental information. The consultation closes on 26 May 2009.

Dates for your diary

3-4 June 2009: Open ESPON Seminar in Prague. The seminar, themed Territorial Development Opportunities in the Global Economic Recession, is keen to welcome a mix of policy makers and scientists from Europe and neighbouring countries. The seminar is free of charge but each participant has to cover expenses for own travel arrangements and accommodation. Register between 15 April and 15 May 2009 at www.espon.eu.
