RTPI Young Planners in the North East Region held a successful Christmas Social Networking Event on 11 December 2008, at Florita’s in Newcastle. With support from RTPI NE, a drinks reception was provided on arrival, followed by a night of planning chat, banter and general all round Christmas cheer.

The event attracted over 40 planners from a variety of disciplines, consultancies, local government and charitable organisations, and from a range of membership classes – student, licentiate and corporate members, proving that “Young Planners” doesn’t mean only students! Any members are welcome to Young Planners’ events, you don’t even need to be “young”, all we ask is that you’re “young at heart”.

The event was a huge success and it is hoped that other events planned for the Young Planners’ Network are as good. Future events planned for 2009 include a seminar by the Planning Inspectorate, a seminar on GIS by Nathaniel Lichfield and Partners, and a presentation on the RTPI Assessment of Professional Competence and the Code of Conduct. Details of these events, and information on how to book, can all be found on the North East RTPI Young Planners’ page. Make sure you join up to the Young Planners Network on the RTPI webpage, to keep up to date on all events in the area!
