The Action Plan
26-Feb-09
This plan frames what the RTPI proposes to do, but more importantly, what spatial planners and our partners can do together.
The RTPI will continuously develop its living Action Plan for “Planning to Live with Climate Change” and will draw this into its Corporate Plan and annual Business Plan to complement the actions that will be required by professional planners, central and local government, public and voluntary sector agencies and the private sector. It will continue to adapt its organisation and operations to promote spatial planning and engage its members and partners in tackling global economic, social and environmental issues. It will also need to engage the commitment of its members and partners to deliver practical action.

What our members said...
RTPI members responded to a member engagement process carried out from February to April of 2008 by feeding back a large number of proposals for action. The action plan is a living document that will draw on and develop these over time. Members access a document that analyses proposals made via the member engagement and a General Assembly debate in April 2009.

Immediate action: our seven commitments
Seven immediate themes for action were developed for launch at the Planning Convention 2009. These are:
- Promote behaviour change in response to climate change
- Adapt existing places to a more sustainable future
- Work towards climate change responsive policies and legislation
- Improve current practice
- Celebrate best practice
- Develop a compendium of best practice and policy outcomes
- Develop climate change skills
Each theme is underpinned by a project plan that can be accessed by clicking the links above.

This plan is a living document. Proposals developed by the membership will be taken forward to develop and augment the seven commitments and new proposals will be developed to respond to changing climate change science and priorities.
