Policy responses are listed in order of date of issue, with the most recent first.  Scroll down the page to see earlier responses.

Each response carries a file number (eg P2006/59) which enables RTPI to track related documents and correspondence. Its relevance to particular places/jurisdictions is also recorded.  There is a link to a place-based view of policy documents for other places at the foot of this page.

June 2010

  • Microgeneration and Low Carbon Energy Technologies:The Welsh Assembly Government has consulted on proposed changes to Permitted Development Rights for Non-domestic Premises and and Householders (turbines, air source heat pumps and solar panels on flat roofs). Details of the consultation can be found here. RTPI Cymru's response was submitted by the deadline of 3 July 2010.
  • Inquiry into Planning- The National Assembly for Wales' Sustainability Committee is conducting an inquiry into planning. Further information is available from the Committee's website. RTPI Cymru's evidence to the Inquiry can be found here.

  • Economic Renewal Programme- The Welsh Assembly Government invited contributions to the development of its Economic Renewal Programme. Further information can be found from here. RTPI Cymru's response can be found here.

  • Study to Examine the Planning Application Process in Wales - The Welsh Assembly Government has conducted a comprehensive review of the planning application system in Wales. It appointed GVA Grimley to conduct an important research study to inform the review. GVA published the report in March 2010 for consultation.   • Cadw's Conservation Principles - Cadw published its Conservation Principles, Policies and Guidance for the sustainable management of the historic environment in Wales for consultation in July 2009. RTPI Cymru's response can be found here.

  • Climate Change Action Plan - The Assembly Government consulted on its Climate Change Action Plan; RTPI Cymru's response can be seen here.
  • Technical Advice Note (TAN) 6: Planning for Sustainable Rural Communities - RTPI Cymru's response to the Welsh Assembly Government's consultation on TAN 6 - Planning for Sustainable Rural Communities, including Low impact Developments (LIDs) can be found here.
  • Consultation on changes to Planning Policy Wales to support the requirement for travel plans for specific types of development - The Assembly Government published this consultation in July 2009 to amend Planning Policy Wales. RTPI Cymru's response can be seen here.
  • Wales National Transport Plan - The Assembly Government's Department for Economy and Transport consulted on its proposed National Transport Plan in 2009; RTPI Cymru's response can be found here.

  • Supporting Sustainable Development in Rural Areas, Welsh Assembly Government - The Assembly Government has consulted on how to support sustainable development in rural areas of Wales and meeting housing needs in rural areas. RTPI Cymru's response to this consultation can be found here.
  • Planning for Climate Change (further consultation), Welsh Assembly Government - The Welsh Assembly Government has consulted further on policy proposals for addressing climate change by the planning system. RTPI Cymru's response can be found here.

  • Community Infrastructure Levy, Welsh Assembly Government - The Welsh Assembly Government has consulted on the proposals set out in the CLG's policy statement on the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL). RTPI Cymru's response to the consultation can be found here.
  • Resourcing the Planning Service, Welsh Assembly Government - The Assembly Government has consulted on the resources required for the planning system in Wales. The consultation ended in September 2008. RTPI Cymru's responses can be found here.

  • Limited Revision to TAN 12: Design - Following on from the revisions to Planning Policy Wales in relation to design (Ministerial Interim Planning Policy Statement 01/2008), the Welsh Assembly Government issued a further consultation on limited revisions to TAN 12: Design.   • Renewable Energy Route Map - In February 2008 the Welsh Assembly Government launched a consultation on its proposed Renewable Energy Route Map for Wales. To see the consultation document click here. Whilst this is not a planning document per se, it does have implications for planning, for example it may prompt a review of Technical Advice Note (TAN) 8: Renewable Energy.   • Draft Minerals Technical Advice Note 2: Coal - The Welsh Assembly Government issued further consultation on issues relating to the Draft Minerals Technical Advice Note (TAN) 2: Coal in February. To see RTPI Cymru's response to this consultation click here.

  • Wales Spatial Plan Update - The draft Wales Spatial Plan Update 2008: People Places Futures set a vision for how each part of Wales should develop economically, socially and environmentally over the next 20 years and will guide the way in which the Assembly Government spends its money over the coming years.
    RTPI Cymru and the Welsh Assembly Government jointly held two special consultation workshops in Cardiff and Bangor, to explore the issues which are specific to planning.  Over 100 people attended the two events, and it was very positive to see the active discussions that took place.  A summary of the main points from the discussion groups can be found at People, Places, Futures: The Wales Spatial Plan 2008 Update Consultation.   • Competition Commission's Investigation into the Groceries Market - In February 2008, the Competition Commission issued its draft proposals following its investigation into the groceries' market.
