Positive support for residents in County Durham and Newcastle
Many residents in County Durham and the City of Newcastle are learning more about the planning process and how they can get involved in place making. Thanks to the support of local councils in the region, Planning Aid North (PAN) is delivering expanded awareness and capacity building programmes.
In County Durham, PAN is delivering the third year of an innovative education support programme for young people. This project has seen primary and secondary pupils learning about and contributing to a wide range of planning issues. Recently studies have focussed on appraisals of Conservation Areas in Weardale and Consett Town Centre.
Following upon a successful 2-year support programme for residents in the East and West Ends of Newcastle, PAN has embarked on a city-wide awareness initiative. Residents will learn how the planning system is changing, the impact in Newcastle and how they can contribute. Optional training will be offered to give communities more confidence to contribute when they are engaged by the Council.
PAN has just produced its quarterly reviews which show positive progress being made on these two important projects.
