Rural Update

RTPI North West Event.  The implications for planning practice of the Coalition Government’s significant revision and shift in emphasis of the policy framework covering rural areas, including removal of the regional dimension, the Environment White Paper and Biodiversity 2020 Strategy, CAP reform, the localism agenda and the National Planning Policy Framework. The event will encourage participants to mix and share evolving practice and attempt to gauge the changing role of professional planners in the rural policy mix. Minerals and waste planning update: rocks, oil and rubbish

The proposed presumption in favour of sustainable development has interesting implications for minerals and waste planning at a time when many authorities and regional bodies are bringing forward development plan documents for minerals and waste. This RTPI North West Region event will therefore provide a timely update on a range of minerals and waste planning issues including legislation, plans, policies, implementation and monitoring using a case study approach to highlight examples of best and innovative practice.

Changing lives, changing society

This latest conference from UWE's Institute for Sustainability, Health and Environment will bring together professionals, policy makers and academics to grapple with the challenge of a widespread transition to healthy and sustainable behavioural patterns. The 9th European IUHPE Conference on Health Promotion "Health and Quality of Life"

27-29 September, Tallinn, Estonia

A collaboration project between Estonian Medical Association, Estonian Union for Health Promotion, Estonian Health Foundation and International Union for Health Promotion and Education. The main aim of the conference is to share and learn from experiences of governments of European Union Member States, its institutions, communities and neighbourhoods on the strategic management of the impact within their countries, which was caused by economic decline and search for new solutions for population health.

Renewable Energy Conference

This Briefing & Workshop covers the key renewable energy planning policy drivers, and the practical implementation process from both the LPA and private consultants perspective.  The current Government is expecting boroughs to demonstrate the "Power of Competency" in developing policy and setting renewable energy and CO2 reduction targets. This change of mindset is reflected in the new Localism Agenda. However, any policy should be founded on a robust evidence base for the potential for renewable/low-carbon energy.
