Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects
23 February, London
The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC) started work in 2008 to deal with major transport, energy, waste and water applications. It brings a new method of decision making on major infrastructure projects which requires a range of new skills and the understanding of new processes for all those involved in such schemes.
This timely conference brings together representatives of all those groups and interests who are involved in this important process to discuss its operation to share emerging good practice, to discuss the challenges that this process brings for the public and private sectors, to map out its effects and to advise on the best ways for you to get involved.
Whilst the IPC itself is to be abolished following the passing of the Localism Act, the procedure for dealing with nationally important infrastructure projects continues and the IPC now have received ten applications with another 58 in the pipeline. These applications are spread throughout England and Wales.
Water and Planning: Crossing Boundaries and Bridging Gaps
24 February, Bristol
This is a joint workshop forum for the Changing Water and Planning Policy Arena across England and Wales (e.g. the Flood and Water Management Act, National SuDS Standards, the Water White Paper and planning policy in Wales and England). The event is aimed at planners and other professionals involved with planning for water management in both Wales and England.
Breaking and emerging water policy and practice will take centre stage, this will be set squarely against the complex, challenging planning context.

The waste agenda continues to change. We are expecting to be consulted on a draft National Waste Management Plan during 2012 along with an annexe to replace ‘Planning for Sustainable Waste Management (PPS10). In the meantime, the Government is promising to publish the National Planning Policy Framework and though it will not include policies on waste development it will nevertheless have an impact on the relentless flow of planning applications. All this while waste planning authorities are struggling to resource a service critical to the delivery of badly needed infrastructure.

The 9th European IUHPE Conference on Health Promotion "Health and Quality of Life"

A collaboration project between Estonian Medical Association, Estonian Union for Health Promotion, Estonian Health Foundation and International Union for Health Promotion and Education. The main aim of the conference is to share and learn from experiences of governments of European Union Member States, its institutions, communities and neighbourhoods on the strategic management of the impact within their countries, which was caused by economic decline and search for new solutions for population health.

Renewable Energy Conference

This Briefing & Workshop covers the key renewable energy planning policy drivers, and the practical implementation process from both the LPA and private consultants perspective. The current Government is expecting boroughs to demonstrate the "Power of Competency" in developing policy and setting renewable energy and CO2 reduction targets. This change of mindset is reflected in the new Localism Agenda. However, any policy should be founded on a robust evidence base for the potential for renewable/low-carbon energy.
