NETWORK MEMBERSHIPS UP AGAIN - read more and see what is on offer!

The total membership of all the RTPI’s networks and associations now exceeds 7,500. The Young Planners Network, the largest, has more than 1,300 members, whilst the Urban Design Network has over 800. The membership of the Regeneration and Development Planning Networks now both top 600, whilst the next largest is Environmental Planning and Protection (EPP) with 572. International Development has over 500 members, whilst the National Association for Planning Enforcement (NAPE) has 489 and Transport Planning 481.

The newest network is PERN (Planning Education and Research), with only 100 members so far. The Planning for Housing Network (532 members) is now a joint initiative between the RTPI and the Chartered Institute of Housing. The Networks 2008 Annual Report is available from networks@rtpi.org.uk .

Many of the networks now take the lead on preparing relevant RTPI policy papers: for example the Development Management Network and NAPE are currently considering a DCLG consultation on Publicity for Planning Applications, while EPP is considering Low Emission Strategies. The Merthyr Tydfil Town Centre Regeneration Project was the winner of the Regeneration Network’s 2009 award.

If you are not already a member of at least one of the networks, it really is about time you joined! They are all free to RTPI members, and represent one of the RTPI’s best recent initiatives. Much more information (including how to join) is available on the main part of the RTPI website.
