Venue - Sunniside, Sunderland. Meeting at St Peter's Metro Station
Date - Thursday 10th July 6-8pm
Cost - Free
The topic of this seminar is conservation led regeneration of an historic area utilizing partnership schemes.
The Seminar will take a look at how partnerships with HLF, English Heritage and, later on, ONE-North East have revitalized the Sunniside area of Sunderland. The tour will also look at many aspects of Urban Design, particularly at the contemporary approach adopted for the treatment of the Gardens and “The Place”.
There will be a discussion of the problems of regenerating the wider area to the periphery of Sunniside (outside the conservation area), where there is scope to redevelop on a more comprehensive basis, and the bringing into being of an SPD for the area (which is due for adoption by Council in July, having just completed public consultation) that is largely design led and thereby endeavouring to co-ordinate / reduce the excesses of the activities of the developers who are involved. Issues of “buy to let” and “buy to leave” will also be discussed.
