NE Law Firms Rated Highly
The 2008 Legal Survey published in “Planning” on 25 April ranked Dickinson Dees and Ward Hadaway as 21st equal in a national survey of top English law firms involved in planning, up from 32nd and 41st, respectively, in their 2007 survey. Other law firms well known to Northern planners include Eversheds (2nd in the survey) and Cobbetts (13th). Peter Wilbraham of Cobbetts was 19th equal in the national ranking of planning solicitors, behind Paul Winter of Eversheds, ranked 2nd.
Otherwise, it is notable how many of the top law firms and solicitors are based in London and the South East, with very much smaller numbers of mentions of Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, Bristol, Leicester and one or two other towns.
Rather surprisingly, the national top ranked planning barrister, Christopher Katkowski QC, quotes “advising Tesco on the Vaux Brewery redevelopment in Sunderland” as the first in a long list of his current casework, the only case in the North East which is mentioned by any of the top ten planning silks. (The silks mention several other Tesco cases, elsewhere in the UK, so now you know where the money you spend in Tesco goes!)
