THE NEW ESPON PROGRAMME IS LAUNCHED THIS WEEK
The European Observation Network on Territorial Development and Cohesion (ESPON) 2008 – 2013 was launched on 21 January in Brussels. This opens immediate funding opportunities for both researchers and practitioners interested in developing regional analysis.

22 MARCH 2008 DEADLINE FOR THE FIRST CALLS
Researchers are invited to submit research proposals for the following project themes:
• Cities and urban agglomerations: their functionality and potentials for European competitiveness and cooperation
• Development opportunities in different types of rural areas
• Demographic and migratory flows affecting European regions and cities
• Climate change and territorial effects on regions and local economies
• Effects of rising energy prices on regional competitiveness
• Territorial Impact Assessment of policies.
In addition there is a call for proposals to deliver the development of the ESPON 2013 database.

Authorities responsible for development at national, regional, city or cross-border levels are invited to submit requests for analyses to support strategy and policy development and/or implementation measures.
