RTPI ANNUAL LECTURE 2008

Controversial Guardian Columnist Simon Jenkins delivered this year’s RTPI Annual Lecture. Speaking without the aid of notes he laid down a challenge to planners to act as the “mediators between democracy and economic growth".

The annual lecture was started in 2004 in partnership with The Crown Estate and Haymarket, the publishers of “Planning” Magazine.
A keynote speaker is invited to speak to an invited audience on a subject of general planning relevance. Past speakers have included Sir Peter Hall whose lecture was titled “Talking the Talk, Walking the Walk : How to make Paper Plans Real” and Sir Terry Farrell whose subject was "Urban Futures". The 2006 lecture was given by Professor Richard Sennett, Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
