Planning for Healthy Cities

Today this role continues to grow as planners are increasingly required to take health impacts into account and utilise their skills to improve the public health effects of development. Issues such as obesity ensure that this role will only expand in the years to come. This event will discuss the current relationship between health and planning, the importance of considering health impacts and available assessment methods for doing so as well as seeing how these can be applied in practice. The event will also provide an opportunity for young planners to network within the informal setting of Racks Bar and Kitchen. Speakers attending the event include: Professor Hugh Barton - Professor of Planning, Health and Sustainability and Director for Healthy Urban Environments (University of the West of England) Stephen Hewitt - Specialist Planner in Healthy Living/Health Improvement (Bristol City Council Strategic and Citywide Policy) Dr Angela Raffle - Consultant in Public Health and Wider Determinants of Health & Sustainability (Bristol Primary Care Trust)

Changes to the APC Process!

As you may be aware, from January 2012 the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) process will be moving online, using RTPI Learn.  This exciting new resource will allow candidates to access new online guidance material, including tools such as checklists, podcasts and presentations, to assist them prepare their applications. There will also be an online forum for up-to-date advice. In light of the proposed changes, the NWYP Steering Group have organised for an APC Update Seminar to be held on Thursday 24^th November (well in advance of the January submission deadline!).
