ICN meetings are small, roundtable events designed to allow plenty of time for questions and discussion. As is the preference of network members, events usually start mid-morning and end with lunch and a chance to network with other independent consultants. They are held at locations around the UK and there is no cost for members to attend these events. Some events provide valuable continuing professional development (CPD). More information about CPD and how the RTPI measures it.

Our next event: Meeting with the Planning Inspectorate (Bristol, 24 September)

Past events

Topics covered include a discussion with the Planning Inspectorate and a session on the RTPI complaints procedure and support offered through Planners in the Workplace. A briefing note is produced after each meeting, which network members can access in the members' area of the website, along with presentations and any other follow-up materials.

Last year the Independent Consultants’ Network conference was “An update on spatial planning”, tutored by Janice Morphet. This one-off event covered all the recent changes in the spatial planning system, and included:

  • key differences between pre 2004 and current systems
  • an update on the legal background and relevant acts
  • an examination of core strategies, working through examples
  • an update on effective practice in spatial planning research

Many thanks to all those who participated in this extremely useful event, and helped to make the day such a success.
