As the network develops it is hoped that members can be more proactively involved with projects, such as helping a community with a village plan. Details will follow. Planning Aid provides opportunities for younger planners to be involved with planning communities.

Brighton 2008

SCYPN is delighted that the 2008 RTPI National Young Planners’ Conference will be held in Brighton.  The benefits of Brighton being:

1. Brighton has a national and international reputation for hosting successful conferences with a world class range of highly accessible waterfront venues;

2. Brighton is a vibrant place, a cultural centre where ideas are generated. The city is also coastal- the frontline against possible sea level rise;

3. The City has numerous proposals for sustainable compact city development as well as some contentious proposals both in the City and on the edge such as for Brighton Football Club;

4. The South benefits from an established young planners network to provide organisation and support. The organisers are confident of increased participation and enhanced organisation because of this;

5. The proposal to hold the conference in Brighton was supported by the University of Brighton, East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council;

6. Following successful conferences held in northern England over recent years it is arguably the South's turn to host the conference!

7. It’s sunny and warm ‘down south’ especially in the autumn!
