Back to South Coast Young Planners
Ideas and suggestions for events are always welcome, whether they’re social or professional. Maybe there’s a project going on in your work place that you think the SCYPN would be interested in, or perhaps you’re a budding socialite with a need to party! Whatever your idea, please feel free to contact us and we will endeavour to get it up and running. Informal events are also encouraged so if you’ve spotted something of interest or are setting up your own event then contact the Steering Group and we will let the network know.
What's Happened in 2011?
APC event
In January we were delighted to host our first event of 2011. The event held at The Point in Eastleigh focussed on the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and we were fortunate enough to have Tracey Lloyd, Head of Membership & Careers for the RTPI, as our guest speaker running through the ins and outs of the APC process. Tracey got the evening under way with a presentation (pdf, 516kb) on the key elements of the APC with intermittent question and answer sessions. The young planners, of which there were around 30, then split into three groups and engaged in three ten minute workshops looking at the log books, professional competence statement, and conclusion. The evening was a really useful resource no matter what stage of the APC process you may have been at and was a great way to get our programme of events for 2011 underway.
Green Infrastructure event
The South Coast Young Planners' Network and Landscape Institute South East hosted a joint Green Infrastructure (GI) Event on 7 July at Hampshire County Council. The event provided an excellent opportunity to learn about GI from the regional to local scale with guests hearing from six key speakers.

Marine and Coastal Planning in the South
In November the South Coast Young Planners' Network, in association with Business Solent, hosted a Marine and Coastal Planning in the South event at the Ocean Village Innovation Centre in Southampton. The event provided an excellent opportunity to learn about initiatives that are taking place along the south coast whilst also providing an update on government policy concerning marine and coastal planning. Attendees heard from key speakers from both the private and public sector including; Edward Gerry and Andrew Colenutt from New Forest District Council on Solent Shoreline Management Plans and Coastal Management Zones; Richard Plume of Southampton City Council on relevant Major Developments in Southampton; Bernadine Maguire (SCC) on MMOs and Marine Plans; as well as a talk on Port Development in the south. The presentations for the event will be available shortly.
