Recession Support Event
In response to continued uncertainty over the state of the economy, the North West Young Planners in association with the University of Manchester held a Recession Support Event on 30th September. The purpose of this free workshop was provide planners with the opportunity to hear about some of the support available to help get back on the career ladder, whilst also providing a forum where individuals could discuss specific issues which they were facing in the workplace.

Liverpool Walking tour
A successful, although slightly damp, walking tour was held in Liverpool on Wednesday 14 July 2010. Despite heavy rain and hail the tour, led by one of Liverpool’s Blue Badge guides, snaked its way from the Lime Street Concourse to Derby Square. The tour took in Lime Street, William Brown Street, Dale Street, Exchange Flags, Water Street and Castle Street.
The tour identified unusual aspects of Liverpool’s architecture and its impact on modern culture including where the name of the band Queen came from and the history of the lions on St George’s Plateau. The walk was interesting and certainly left a lasting impression on those who attended.
North West Young Planners' Sustainability event:
On 9 June in Manchester. Hosted and sponsored by AECOM this event included input from the sustainable transport team and the advanced design group at AECOM Manchester. They covered modern aspects of sustainability in building design using current examples of good design being developed through application of BREEAM guidance. They also gave an overview of current thinking in delivering places and how that connects with sustainable movement.
NWYP and MATRICS Joint Event
Following on from the hugely successful inter-professional social held with the NWYP and MATRICS last year, we hosted a similar event on Thursday 29 April at Barbirolli, Barbirolli Square, Manchester. Attending were North West Young Planners and MATRICS (Young Surveyors).
The night provided opportunities to socialise and mingle with fellow young professionals whilst enjoying fabulous location and setting of Barbirolli.
The NWYPG organises a variety of social and professional events for the benefit of young planners. Everyone is welcome to come along and see what it's all about – there will be opportunities to learn from more experienced planners, to share knowledge and best practice with students and other young professionals from a variety of planning fields, and of course the opportunity to meet and socialise with other young planners.
