Transport Planning Network Events & Notices
Network Events: Would you or your organization like to host an event with the RTPI/TPS Transport Planning Network – for example, a walking tour of a recent project or an informal evening discussion of key transport issues for a few members? We would particularly welcome suggestions for events outside London. If you would like to host such an event, please e-mail the Network and we can help you organize it. Contact the Network here
Here are a range of events and notices that may be of interest to Transport Planning Network members:
21.05.08 Railway Improvement - Britain on Track: 21st May 2008, London. Improvement of the UK’s rail infrastructure is an increasingly topical subject. A recent report suggested that a large percentage of air journeys could otherwise be made by rail. Coupled with climate change’s place high on the political agenda, the Government’s reaction was to unveil a white paper entitled "'Delivering a Sustainable Railway", with the aim of doubling the network’s capacity over the next thirty years. This event aims to answer the many questions posed by the proposals within the paper. Reduced rates for the public sector. For more information, click here
12.06.08 Road Network Management 2008: Barbican Conference Centre, London, EC2Y 8D.This conference will highlight innovation, tackle controversy and showcase examples of "Best Practice" in road network management from around the UK, providing a forum for Traffic Managers and other transport professionals to debate the work done so far, and the work still to be done in maximising the efficiency of our roads. Click here for more information on this event. The Network has been offered 2 free places at this conference, available on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. If you would like to get hold of one, call David Booker on 0161 832 7387 and quote ‘RTPI.’ Good luck in getting your free place. Please note the free places are available to public sector workers only, as specified by the organisers.

19.06.08 Education & Enforcement - How Can Local Authorities Improve Road Safety? Thursday 19th June 2008 in Westminster. In 2007 the Government published its Three Year Review of Road Safety and latest Child Road Safety Strategy. These publications build on the original Department for Transport road safety plan, Tomorrow's Roads - Safer for Everyone, which set a number of challenging targets to reduce casualties on our roads by 2010. Although Britain’s roads are among the safest in the world, the Audit Commission report, Changing Lanes, suggests there is still much to do. Delegates at this Westminster Briefing will have the opportunity to consider the latest government plans, recent funding announcements and legislation as well as discuss what more local authorities can do, both through education and enforcement, to improve road safety.
