Independent Consultants' Network
The Independent Consultants’ Network (ICN) is for chartered town planners who work as sole practitioners or run their own small planning practices (with other planners or with related professionals).
Its purpose is to provide targeted information and resources, and provide a forum for independent consultants to discuss issues and share practice.
By joining the network, independent consultants can keep up to date with relevant information and developments, seek and offer advice and experience, and exchange information and news with other network members.
The ICN at a glance
What the ICN is...
Targeted information and resources for independent planning consultants (i.e. those running their own businesses). The weekly bulletin's emphasis is on business support and it covers topics such as tax, health and safety, small business news, running your office, HR issues, IT, employment legislation etc. It also makes members aware of CPD opportunities, particularly low-cost or free events.
The ICN has an active, email-list based discussion forum which enables those working alone, or without the benefit of a room full of planning colleagues, to seek advice and information from others in the same situation.
...and what the ICN isn’t
- General information for all planning consultants: if you don’t manage your own business and run your own office or work from home, you probably won’t find the content (see above) very relevant.
- A source of general planning information – you’ll find the Development Management Network and the Development Planning Network the best places for this.
- A source of information on specific planning topics – you’ll find the topic networks (such as Transport Planning, Regeneration, and Urban Design) the places for this.
If this sounds like the Network for you, we'd love to hear from you. Read on for how to join us...
