Planning as a Career - Four Perspectives

There are many different career routes open to those interested in planning. This event considers some of the options available and what is involved in working in different sectors.


Four speakers with experience across different sectors will give insight into what their roles involve and how they have developed their careers in their chosen sector -

  • John Wright , Head of Planning & Development, Strutt & Parker
  • Aedan Smith, Head of Planning, RSPB
  • David McAllister, Manager- Training, PAS
  • Prof. Hugh Begg, (Amongst many roles) - Former Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Studies (University of Dundee), Honorary Professor In Local Economic Development (University of Abertay Dundee), Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland, Scottish Government Planning and Environmental Appeals Reporter.

The event is open to all and will be of particular interest to those currently studying with a view to pursuing a career in planning, or those already working within planning who would like to know more about life in different sectors of the field.


Free for RTPI Members/ students. Non-RTPI members charge £5 towards event running costs.
