Stirling Highland Hotel, Spittal St, Stirling, FK8 1DU
The RTPI Central Scotland Chapter would like to invite you to a tour of Stirling Observatory, kindly hosted by the Stirling Astronomical Society.
Until the early 1960's the hotel building was occupied by the High School of Stirling. The observatory tower was built in the late 1880's as part of an extension to the school. After long periods of disuse the telescope was restored in the 1970's is now used extensively by the Stirling Astronomical Society alongside the hotel. Weather conditions permitting, time and date of the tour will allow a decent view of the rising moon.
Tours of the observatory will be conducted in two groups of 10 per tour and numbers will therefore be limited – book early to avoid disappointment!
Optional Walking Tour: In addition to the tour of the observatory, there is also the potential for a walking tour of the Stirling Old Town, commencing at 6.00 pm, with an astrological/astronomical theme. This will depend on demand and weather conditions on the night. We will confirm arrangements for the optional tour closer to the event.
Please book your place at the event through Eventbrite:
For further info please contact Richard Callender at firstname.lastname@example.org. This event is free to RTPI members and £5 (plus small Eventbrite service fee) for non-RTPI members. For RTPI members, attending this event will contribute to your CPD.
