Retail Assessments - guidance, good practice and key considerations

Thursday, 22 October 2015 at 12:30PM - 4:30PM
Offices of Shakespeare Martineau, No1 Colmore Square, Birmingham, West Midlands B4 6AA, UK
RTPI West Midlands

The session will provide an over-view of the current national planning policy guidance relating to the assessment of planning applications for retail and town centre uses, and will share lessons and good practice taken from relevant case law and significant appeal decisions.  The session will be presented by experts in the field of retail planning and will include case studies and project examples from the Midlands and across the UK. The session will consider how the relevant national ‘tests’ are being applied in practice and the extent to which the principle of ‘town centre first’ remains the most important consideration when balanced against other factors including the weight to be given to the benefits of economic development.
