Over recent years, the most substantial change in the application of EIA in the UK has arisen in response to the Planning Act 2008, with the introduction of new EIA regulations relating to Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs). More change lies ahead, with the introduction of a new EIA directive, which has to be transposed into member states’ national law by May 2017.  This seminar will explore aspects of the application of the EIA regulations, from the legal, public and private sector perspectives, in relation to NSIPs as well as EIA practice relating to other (non-NSIP) developments.  This will include looking at good practice in the preparation of robust ESs and the role of the EIA process in delivering environmentally beneficial design solutions.
