Strategic Planning Update: The life and death of strategic planning in London and the South East

Tuesday, 14 July 2015 at 6:15PM - 9:00PM
London WC1V 6QS, UK
RTPI London

This event is the last in the RTPI London’s Thinking Strategically event series and seeks to explore current issues in Strategic Planning in London and the South East.

Strategic planning has been in a constant state of flux in recent decades with continuing changes to the planning system including the abolition of the County Structure Plans under the New Labour administration, and the abolition of Regional Spatial Strategies under the Coalition. This event will explore whether locally-led plans  are working in London and the wider south east, the role of the  London Plan and whether more strategic planning is required, in particular outside of London. The event will also consider whether there is currently a skills gap for delivering strategic planning in London and South East.

Confirmed speakers:

  • Tom Venables, Director Design, Planning + Economics at AECOM
  • Catriona Riddell – independent consultant
  • Richard Blythe -Head of Policy and Practice, RTPI
  • Chris Poulton - Team Leader, Strategic and Local Plans, DCLG
