Review and Update

The day will focus on emerging trends and developments in aspects of sustainability.  It will include a thought-provoking review of whether the widely promoted concept of sustainability genuinely resolves the inherent tensions between economic growth and environmental protection.  The relationship of climate change to health and well-being will be explored and an examination of how climate change is to be integrated with EIA and guidance to assist practitioners.  A session will consider how Green Belt policy may assist or hinder sustainable urban growth.  The application of measures to address aspects of climate change and responses in environmental impact assessment will be reviewed.  There will also be a consideration of the Government’s proposals for amending Building Control Regulations and the Code for the Sustainable Homes in so far as these affect the day-to-day work of Planners.
