Join us for the Dumfries and Galloway Chapter AGM and Dumfries: Scotland's Town Centre of the Future event.

The National Review of Town Centres (Fraser Review) is positive about the role of planners in its implementation. RTPI Scotland has welcomed the Review, which includes a recommendation regarding;

'implementing new ways of working which take a more proactive and collaborative approach to planning, a recognition of its important role and longer term approaches to making best use of assets'.

The Review acknowledges the multi faceted causes of town centre decline and the many solutions that need to be found to give our towns new reasons for being. As planners we are well placed to have that pivotal role, pulling together the key players and facilitating change.

Join Matt Baker (STOVE) and Nick Wright (Fraser Review panel) to explore how Dumfries could be at the forefront of a new approach to regenerating our town centres - putting the principles of the Fraser Review into practice, based around the themes of culture, collaboration and community.

We will explore how the planning system and planners can play a key role in nurturing small scale, community based activity as recommended in the Review, encouraging collaboration between all the many and varied players.

We'll start the evening with our AGM and move on quickly to the Town Centre item. After a short presentation there will be a facilitated discussion specifically about Dumfries town centre, of direct interest to town planners and many other professionals working in the region.
