"The financial difficulties being faced, alongside the release of the NPPF, mean that viability is a key issue at the heart of new development.  These half day events will discuss and update you on the factors which you must consider in assessing viability, for both developers and local authorities in policy-making and decision-taking processes.  It will also examine best practice guidance and demonstrate how the most common viability tools and models work - giving you the edge".

This event will be organised as two separate half day events and prospective delegates can attend either the morning or afternoon session.

Please specify which session you wish to attend when completing your booking form and we will try to accommodate your request. However, places at each session are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

This session will provide an overview of how and why viability has become an increasingly important consideration in the planning system in creating planning policy and in determining planning applications.

10:25am           The Mechanics of Viability - How do Viability Appraisals Work?

Mark McKelvey, Senior Land Manager, Bellway Homes Limited (North East)

This session will provide information on the key sources of information that inform viability appraisals, how appraisals work and the important considerations involved in preparing and reviewing viability appraisals.

11.05am           Refreshments

11.15am           Viability and Ensuring Legal Robustness

Peter Nesbit, Senior Associate, Eversheds

This session will provide an overview of how to ensure legal robustness in dealing with viability in making planning decisions including negotiating conditions, legal agreements and complying with the CIL Regulations.

11.50pm           Viability Workshops and Discussions

This session will involve workshops facilitated by representatives of GVA and Bellway Homes Limited (North East).  These will include discussions on experiences of viability in planning, preparing and reviewing appraisals, scenario testing and the application of best practice guidance and processes.  There will also be a group feedback session at the end to share key points raised.
