The Scottish Government has recently announced a number of changes to national planning policy. These changes include a new Scottish Planning Policy and the preparation of The Main Issues Report for the 3rd National Planning Framework (NPF3), due to be published in the Spring 2013. NPF 3 will provide another 20 to 30 year vision for the future of Scotland, but, did the last version achieve everything it said it would?

It is vitally important that young planners from across Scotland engage in the debate on the priorities of NPF3 and its delivery. This year's Annual Scottish Young Planners' Conference will provide an opportunity to do just this through discussions on key national issues, including planning for infrastructure provision, energy, successful places, wellbeing and economic growth. To ensure that the voices of Scotland's young planners are heard, all the discussion points and ideas raised during the conference will be fed back to the Scottish Government during the formal public consultation period for NPF3.

This is the 10th Annual Scottish Young Planners' Conference; an event, which over the last decade has played a significant role in bringing young planners from across Scotland together to discuss and debate key planning issues. The Annual Conference is the best vessel in which to pass on the views, ideas and opinions of young planners to the Scottish Government, because after all, we will all play a significant role in planning for a better Scotland.
