YPC Active Travel Event

A Case Study: Cycling in Cardiff

Thursday, 05 December 2013 at 5:30PM -
Tuesday, 19 November 2013 at 7:00PM
Bacchus Lounge & Bar, 29 Park Place, Cardiff CF10 3BA, UK

The Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 became law across Wales on 4 November 2013, and places a number of duties on Welsh Local Authorities.

Young Planners Cymru, with kind support from Local Transport Projects (LTP), are providing an opportunity to help young planners better understand the role planners will take in delivering this duty from both a public and private perspective. The event will start with a brief overview of the Act and the resulting duties for Welsh Local Authorities. LTP will outline how they have supported Cardiff Council in the delivery of a Cycle Network Plan for the city and a five year plan for growth. This will be followed by a site visit, led by Cardiff Council, to a newly implemented scheme on Cathays Terrace. Attendees will then visit Colum Road, the site of an emerging scheme where there will be the opportunity to provide comments to help create a safe and effective scheme in this location. The evening will then continue back at Bacchus with complimentary refreshments provided.

Join us for this fantastic free event including:

  • Guest speakers from Local Transport Projects, Cardiff Council and a short overview of the Active Travel (Wales) Act from Welsh Government;
  • A short site visit to a newly implemented near-by cycling scheme, and a future scheme; and
  • Complimentary refreshments at Bacchus!
