This event will invole a presentation from Cliff Hague, who leads the UK ESPON Contact Point Team. His latest book is Regional and Local Economic Development He has recently been working as a consultant on "Transinform", a rural development project in the Baltic Sea INTERREG programme. He is Chairman of the Built Environment Forum Scotland and writes a regular blog on .  


The talk will focus on Small Towns and Rural Regional Development. It will summarise findings from ESPON about small towns and rural regions.  In particular it will highlight the ESPON work that has been done on Dumfries and Galloway. It will also draw on Cliff's experiences in a number of Scandinavian and Baltic Sea projects to explore practical approaches to place-based policy and action in places that are beyond the commuting areas of large cities.
