RTPI Learning Partner Profile - Smart Planning

Smart Planning Ltd (SPL) aims to provide Town and Country Planning Services to confidently deliver clients' aspirations for the development use of land and buildings in a timely and cost-efficient manner.

In doing so, SPL works to stay at the forefront of current planning practice and seeks to excel in an increasing range of circumstances, over an increasing geographical area and through partnership with those having complementary skills.

SPL is a multi-disciplinary team of seven planning professionals dedicated to the pursuit of development land-use solutions. All Planning Consultants are members of the RTPI. Whether in routine development control, landscape and design or complex strategic planning, SPL has the personnel skills and procedures to navigate proposals effectively through the planning process.

SPL has developed a reputation for problem solving and making progress in difficult situations of competing constraints. This is achieved through a thorough knolwedge of the planning system, daily application of planning law, creativity in design, team working and by placing a high value on negotiation and discussion.


Training & development highlights 

  • Training is commisioned as informed by individual professional development plans.
  • RTPI subscriptions are met by SPL
  • Training sessions are regularly held to make sure consultants are fully aware of the most recent legislation and planning practices
  • Consultants attend the RTPI East of England Planning Law update annually. Business link events, breakfast seminars and Developer and Planning Agents Forum are regularly attended by both the Planning Support Team and Planning Consultants.
