Current Planning Research at Queen's University, Belfast
The Institute of Spatial and Environmental Planning (ISEP) is one of three research clusters in the School of Spatial Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPACE). The Institute has three main research specialisms: Rural planning and development; Sustainability and regulatory governance; and Spatial planning and contested spaces. Current projects include:
Contested Cities and Urban Universities
The study aims to look at the interface between regeneration and reconciliation in contested cities such as Belfast.
Planning Shared Space
A multidisciplinary project aiming to study the relationship between demographic and territorial changes in Belfast. The study will promote the concept of shared space as an important issue in the creation of a sustainable shared future for Belfast.
Strategic Planning Action Network (SPAN)
The project is funded by INTERREG and involves partner Universities in the Republic of Ireland, France and Belgium. It is focused on housing and local development in rural areas and the ways in which community-led schemes can improve the physical and human resource base in an area.
