RTPI Learning Partner Profile - Halcrow Group Ltd

Halcrow’s Development Planning team provides a full range of integrated services to support the planning process throughout the UK and overseas, with 55 planners based in the UK and nearly 100 in total. Our skills are urban based, focused on enabling development from the feasibility stage through to implementation. We work at the forefront of the planning and regeneration agenda, delivering policy/strategy and project solutions to the public and private sectors.

We provide a full range of integrated services, with experience of handling planning applications for large scale development proposals of all types, including mixed-use, residential, commercial and public sector development, in the UK and overseas. We have detailed knowledge of up-to-date legislation, having influenced planning policy from government guidance through to regional guidance and planning obligations. We also have expertise in urban design and architecture, economic development regeneration and sustainability.

One of our key strengths is our multidisciplinary organisation and we can call on support from transport planners, landscape architects and environmental scientists amongst other specialisations. Our regional organisation provides a footprint in most parts of the UK, providing a sound basis for local delivery of project work with the backing of a strategic multidisciplinary organisation. Our network of overseas local offices allows opportunities beyond the UK, and Halcrow are particularly active in the Middle East in delivering major infrastructure projects.

Training & Development Highlights

Investors in People – Halcrow are accredited as an Investor in People
Staff Development – Halcrow operates a Personal Development Review process, to identify development needs and actions. An annual training budget is allocated towards the training needs of individual staff members, which is agreed through this process and which includes an annual 2-day ‘Planning Awayday’
Support of the Planning Profession – Halcrow supports wider planning professional development by allocated time and resources at RTPI chapter events, the RTPI Scottish Executive Committee, and attendance at Young Planners’ Conferences. Halcrow will be supporting the 2008Planning Summer School.
‘Planning Community of Practice’ – a new UK initiative embracing all Development Planners, which seeks to share best practice and information regarding urban and regional planning in a virtual environment. One early development is a web-based support and discussion forum for Licentiates.
