The Environment Agency is the biggest organisation protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales. Our aim is to provide an integrated approach to the protection and management of the environment taking into account impacts on the land, air and water. We deal with a wide range of environmental issues including flood risk, land contamination, water resources, waste management, biodiversity and pollution control.
We employ over 230 planning staff in Area Offices throughout England and Wales making us one of the largest single employers of planners in the UK. The Agency is a statutory consultee in the planning process, providing advice to Local Authorities and developers on pre-application enquiries, planning applications, appeals and strategic plans. Last year we were consulted on over 50,000 items of casework.
Further information on our role in the planning process can be found on the EA planning web pages.
