How you participate in the programme is up to you. Here are some suggestions based on whether you are a Student or recent graduate , Young Planner or Experienced Practitioner
Once you have carried out an activity, let us know using the feedback form.
Careers presentation at a school
Promote the value of planning and the importance of Future Planners, talk about your career path, the value of work experience, and routes to RTPI membership. You can use the RTPI presentation or create your own.
Lesson or activity at a school
You can download the Planning the Future activity pack and use it to engage 11-18 year olds in the world of town planning.
University Open days
Get involved with your department to promote planning as a degree choice and the value of RTPI student membership.
If you find a great way to get involved that is not included here, please email us email@example.com
Careers fairs and events
Talk to school leavers and graduates about the opportunities available in a career in town planning. Look out for alumni events or contact the careers office of your local college or university. The RTPI receives requests for Ambassadors but you can look for opportunities using Plotr (UK) Prospects (UK) or Qualifax (Ireland) which offer a wide-ranging, though not comprehensive, list of future events. Order some careers brochures to take with you.
Offer work experience or mentoring
Advertise work experience opportunities to local schools and colleges or let the RTPI know you welcome requests for work experience by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are interested in mentoring then you could register with an organisation like Brightside the Career and Enterprise Company, Into University or the Prince's Trust. Also have a look at our guide to organisations that link businesses with schools.
Urban Plan UK and Property Needs You run careers events focusing on the Built Environment. If you are interested in participating please email email@example.com to find out about availability.
Events in Regions and Nations
Your local coordinator may advertise for ambassadors or may be able to provide you with access to local events.
Spread the word about the value of planning and the importance of Future Planners using social media, write a blog post or record a podcast for your University or Company promoting the #RTPIFuturePlanners initiative. Please read the RTPI policy on using Social Media.
