Sources of CPD

Lots of different activities can be CPD. The RTPI is not prescriptive about the types of activity that count as CPD, recognising that you are best placed to assess the value of an activity to your professional development.

You don't just have to attend courses and conferences to meet the CPD requirements. Make sure that your CPD links back to the objectives that you set yourself in your professional development plan or is an unexpected source of learning which helps your development as a planner.

These are some of the things that you may wish to use as part of your CPD:

Conferences and Training courses

Structured reading about a specific topic.

You may want to write up your research and present it to other members of your team to support them with their professional development.

N.B. Routine reading of the technical press, e.g. Planning magazine, would not usually be acceptable CPD.

Work-based learning

RTPI activities of a Professional Nature

Only include these sorts of activities if you have learnt from them.
