The RTPI undertakes to ensure good quality spatial planning through setting expectations of competence and professionalism for our membership. This section outlines our commitment to Lifelong Learning and Continuing Professional Development.
The RTPI exists to advance the science and art of planning for the benefit of the public. This is achieved by setting expectations of competencies and professionalism for planning professionals and supporting these through education and Lifelong Learning.
The RTPI takes a broad view of Lifelong Learning as referring to education and learning opportunities throughout an individuals lifetime and career.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is an in an integral part of the RTPI's vision for Lifelong Learning and it is vitally important to the profession and its professional profile.
RTPI members are obliged by the Code of Professional Conduct to take all reasonable steps to maintain their professional competence throughout their working lives.
The Institute asks that all members prepare a Professional Development Plan (PDP), record their CPD, reflect on their learning, and, if requested to do so, submit their CPD record to the Institute.
To support members in their CPD the RTPI provides a range of learning opportunities including:
RTPI Regions and Nations
RTPI Conferences
Networks and Associations
Planning Aid
Additionally, the Institute will soon be launching its own virtual learning environment: RTPI Learn where members can access online courses provided by the RTPI and its partners.
