What is the Future Planners Bursary
The Future Planners Bursary was launched in 2015 to increase the pipeline of planners graduating, and subsequently working, in the UK and Ireland.
I couldn't have done it without the bursary, for which I'm very grateful. During interviews for jobs I would use the Future Planners Bursary as an example of a recent achievement.
How does it work
Universities with accredited postgraduate planning programmes offered up to two bursaries to award to high quality applicants who met the eligibility criteria.
Who was awarded a bursary
Sarah Temple was awarded the bursary from Oxford Brookes University after submitting a 500 word application to support her application. Studying on the MSc in Spatial Planning, Sarah credits the bursary with enabling her to study a topic that she really enjoys.
Why did you choose to study planning
As a geography undergraduate, she studied a module on the regeneration of urban communities and was enthused with the idea of shaping a quality living environment for people through controlled planning. Sarah feels that planners have the ability to create spaces that enrich people's lives rather than limiting them, and was therefore very interested in pursuing a career in town planning.
What will you be doing after graduation
After graduation Sarah will be working for a planning consultancy in London where she will be working towards Chartered membership.
