New online learning on professional ethics launched

07 February 2018

The RTPI has launched a new bite-size online learning module on professional ethics to provide members with more clarity and support in this area.

This supplements RTPI’s updated practice advice on professional ethics, which reiterates planners’ need to ‘act fearlessly and impartially in their professional judgement’.

The Introduction to Professional Ethics learning module is free, interactive and includes quizzes, audio and sessions that challenge learners to consider their ethical behaviours in various scenarios. There is also a section to help those preparing for a membership application to demonstrate competency C8 – ethical challenges.

All RTPI Learn modules can count as CPD for RTPI members, both in the UK and internationally.

Cat Goumal, RTPI Senior Professional Development Coordinator, said:

“The Institute recognises the growing ethical challenges that members face as planners are under pressure to deliver more with limited resources, and as more of them operate internationally in very different cultural and political systems.

“This online learning module addresses a wide range of situations and should help members steer through them with more confidence and exemplify the professional behaviour expected of them.”

The module covers:

  • Why are professional ethics important to planners?
  • What is ethics?
  • What is an ethical challenge
  • Ethical challenges in practice

RTPI Learn is the RTPI's virtual learning site. It offers free training to support planners increase their knowledge online. The modules are a mixture of text, web links, video clips and diagrams as well as interactive quizzes with instant feedback.
