Over 450 attended Planning Convention 2014 held in Central Hall, Westminster with this year’s theme focussing strongly on the future: Meeting the challenge: How will planners shape the future?
Headline sponsored by AMEC,stand out moments from the event included a presentation from Anil Menon, President, Smart+Connected Communities and Deputy Chief Globalization Officer, Cisco on the huge challenge ahead over the coming decades; the RTPI’s Chief Executive Trudi Elliott CBE on the Institute’s role in helping to drive the agenda to find solutions; Lord Smith of Finsbury, Chairman of the Environment Agency, in one of his last appearances before his term of office concludes; American Planning Association President, Bill Anderson, on the economic growth challenge; and the never to be missed packed Ask the Chief Planner session with DCLG’s Steve Quartermain.

A very strong line-up of exhibitors was matched by an equally impressive list of sponsors.
Planning Minister, Nick Boles, brought the day to a close in an entertaining speech ruling out another planning revolution and predicting that a lot more neighbourhood planning was on its way. He concluded by declaring he was ‘proud of planning, proud of planners’.
