President of the RTPI, Dr Peter Geraghty congratulated the four members of the Institute who were recognised in the New Year’s Honours list: “I’m very proud that members of the Institute have been recognised for their contribution to planning and to wider society. Whether in government, in academia or in practice, what planners do can change people’s lives for the better. We can all be extremely proud of what our four colleagues have achieved whilst looking forward with anticipation to what they will achieve in the future.”

The four members of the RTPI recognised in the 2014 New Year’s honours are:
- Professor Anthony Derek Howell Crook. In addition to his role as a Trustee of the RTPI, he is Emeritus Professor, University of Sheffield, Chair Shelter, and Deputy Chair, Orbit Housing Group. He receives a CBE for services to Housing and Charitable Governance.
- Mrs Mary MacIntyre. Director, Strategic Planning, Department of Environment, Northern Ireland Executive. A former Chair of RTPI NI, she receives an OBE for services to Planning and voluntary service to Strabane District Caring.
- Dr Graeme Alexander Stewart Purves. Formerly assistant chief Planner, Scottish Government. He receives an OBE for services to the Planning Profession.
- John Michael Welbank. Councilman, City of London Corporation. A past-President of the Institute, he receives an MBE for services to Local Government and the community in North West London.
