MPs back RTPI growth recommendations

31 October 2013

The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Local Growth, Local Enterprise Partnerships and Enterprise Zones launched their latest report Rising to the challenge: how LEPs can deliver local growth strategies yesterday.

political parties to allow LEPs continue without unnecessary interference so that there is some added certainty …This stability could be one of government’s key gifts to LEPs - RTPI

The APPG report makes 18 recommendations, drawing on the RTPI’s submission to the call for evidence in July of this year.

Specifically, the APPG recommend that “All parties should make a prominent manifesto commitment to working with LEPs after 2015 to avoid destroying confidence and partnership capital” drawing on RTPI’s submission urging “political parties to allow LEPs continue without unnecessary interference so that there is some added certainty …This stability could be one of government’s key gifts to LEPs.”

The RTPI also recommended joined up thinking and spatial awareness across Whitehall departments, and cooperation from all departmental and non-departmental bodies in achieving sustainable economic growth through integrated local planning.
