This week 200 young professionals from across the country will gather in Leeds to consider how to plan the UK out of recession at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Young Planners’ Conference on 11 - 12 October. The RTPI is the membership organisation of professional planners in the UK.
Sponsored by Turley Associates and Deloitte and titled “Planning out of recession” the conference features high profile speakers from the private and public sectors, and politicians and senior civil servants from Westminster and Whitehall. The conference also includes study tours of some of Yorkshire’s best modern developments and most loved historic landmarks including Trinity Leeds, the York Heritage Trails, Leeds’ Round Foundry Tour, Sheffield’s City Centre, and Leeds Arena.
Jennifer Winyard, Chair of the Organising Committee for the conference and a Senior Planner at Turley Associates said: "There’s no better place than Leeds for a major conference on how to plan the UK out of recession. The city has proved to be more resilient than most during the recession because of its mix of industry, retail, heritage and leisure activities. The RTPI Young Planners’ Conference is set to bring young professionals from across the country to learn about what Leeds has achieved. Young planners hold the future of our built environment and this conference is a terrific opportunity to learn and share our experiences together. We have a great line-up of speakers, study tours and networking and I am sure delegates will take much back to the workplace."
Angela Barnicle, Head of Deloitte Real Estate in Leeds, said: “We are hugely looking forward to the Young Planners conference in Leeds; planning must continue to be at the heart of any strategy to help Leeds, Yorkshire and the UK as a whole thrive in a challenging economic climate. This is a major event in the planning calendar and one which Deloitte Real Estate is delighted to support for the third successive year.”
Speakers include the Government’s Chief Planner Steve Quartermain, Sheffield MP and Chair of the influential Communities and Local Government Select Committee Clive Betts, Chief Executive of the British Property Federation Liz Peace, and Leeds’ Chief Planning Officer Phil Crabtree.
Sponsors and supporters of the conference include: Deloitte, Turley Associates, Anders Elite, Barton Willmore, Curtins Consulting, GVA, Savills, Indigo Planning, Leeds City Council, No5 Chambers, WYG.
