A consortium led by
Locality, which includes the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI),
has been awarded a contract by the Department for Communities and
Local Government (DCLG) to provide neighbourhood planning support
as part of a new two-year programme.
Planning Aid England (PAE), which is run by the RTPI, will help
communities through the key stages of the neighbourhood planning
process under the Supporting Communities in Neighbourhood Planning,
2013-15 initiative. PAE will work directly with neighbourhood
planning groups to provide support, advice and professional input
to the plans being prepared by those communities.
We will also work with our partners in the Consortium to ensure
best practice and lessons learned are shared across the
country.
Dr Peter Geraghty, President of the Royal Town Planning
Institute (RTPI) said:
"This is extremely good news for communities getting to grips
with neighbourhood planning. New funding over the next two years
will help us give them the direct help and support they need to
continue to progress their neighbourhood plans and to have a real
say and an influence over planning in their local areas."
Prof Gavin Parker, Director for Professional Standards, Royal
Town Planning Institute (RTPI) said:
"Planning Aid has a 40-year track record of successfully helping
hundreds of thousands of individuals, community and residents
groups engage in shaping the areas where they live and work. We
look forward to working with Locality and our other partners over
the next two years."
This year the Planning Aid service is celebrating its 40th
anniversary.
Locality is the leading nationwide network of development
trusts, community enterprises, settlements and social action
centres.
