Former President of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Hazel McKay (pictured right) was awarded Honorary Affiliate Membership of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) yesterday in recognition of exceptional service to the built environment.
Hazel has represented the RTPI on the CIC, the representative body for the built environment professional bodies, specialist organisations and business associations, since 1994. She was also Chairman of the CIC Sustainable Development Committee between 2005 and 2009, after deputising for the group for a number of years previously.
The award was given by CIC Chairman Jack Pringle.
Hazel McKay said: "I am delighted to have been honoured for undertaking responsibilities I have greatly enjoyed. Participation in Construction Industry Council has allowed me to influence policies affecting the industry, particularly for sustainability, equality, and the interaction with planning."
During her time at CIC, Hazel has:
- Chaired the steering group that published CIC's client's guide to 'Constructing for Sustainability'
- Participated in the drafting of HM Government's Strategy for Sustainable for Construction
- Contributed to the drafting of the 2012 Construction Commitments.
Dr Peter Geraghty, current President of the RTPI said, "I'm very pleased that the CIC have recognized Hazel's contribution to the CIC. I want to pay tribute to her and the role that she has played representing the views of planners to the wider built environment professions."
